Meet Dr. Peter Protzel

My name is Dr. Peter E. Protzel. I was born and raised on Long Island, New York. I’m a Board-certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who received my undergraduate degree in Physics from Union College. I received my Doctorate in Dental Surgery degree from SUNY Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine in 1996 and my Doctorate of Medicine degree from SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine in 1999. I did my residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, NY as well as a General Surgery Internship at Stony Brook University Hospital. I joined Protzel Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in 2002. I am a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and belong to a number of organizations: American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Association, and the American Medical Association. I am an active faculty member of Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine and Long Island Jewish Medical Center involved with student and resident education.

I have devoted my professional career to all aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery practice with special interests in the treatment of Dental Implants, Facial Trauma, Bone Grafting, Jaw Surgery and Oral Pathology. To keep abreast of the latest developments in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, I have always exceeded the continuing education requirements of New York State.

My hospital affiliations include Northwell Long Island Jewish Medical Center, St. Joseph Hospital, Northwell at Syosset and Plainview as well as Stony Brook University Hospital.

I am an avid baseball fan and enjoy staying active. My wife Meredith and I have two children.
